BREAK Through Assemblies Church in Boko Magengeni area, outside Dar es Salaam City is alleged to sell 'holy communion' for Tsh100,000/- (Approx US$60) to its worshipers.
It is alleged that the move has left many worshipers unable to raise the amount to go without the 'holy food', causing criticism against the churches leadership.
Reports from reliable sources claimed that the incident that left many worshipers speechless took place on 19th January this year, during mass lead by Pastor Godfrey Simtomvu.
Explaining the scenario, the source noted that on that particular day the Pastor brought out containers full of the 'holy communion', however the containers seemed few compared to worshipers who were prepared to receive the holy food.
"It was then that the pastor announced that through the loud speaker that only those with Tsh 100,000/- or more will partake the 'holy communion'", the source added.
After making that announcement, majority of the worshipers became disheartened and moved aside to let those with the said amount, who were less than 10, to move forward to receive the holy food.
"So after noting that there were less than 10, the Pastor announced that those with Tsh 50,000/-(Approx. US$ 30) can participate," the source said adding that majority of the worshipers were just steering at the Pastor with puzzled expression on their faces.
Seeing that the number was still small, the Pastor announced that those without money should register their names then participate in partaking the holy food and cough up the money the next day.
When contacted Pastor Simtomvu said the it was an isolated move that was meant to make a covenant between the worshipers and God, introduced for that day by a Congolese visiting Pastor whom God had revealed to him to do so
